There are a few tours you can choose from when going over to Alcatraz. We took the Blue and Gold Tour Lines. You must get your tickets weeks in advance though, as when we arrived, it was booked for a week ahead. The boat takes you over to the island on a 10 minute ride. The picture to your right shows the sign as you are approaching the island. I wonder if they count ghost escapes! After reaching the dock, you are greeted by a Park Ranger, (Remember this is a National Park) and told of what you might expect there, things to see and rules. Our tickets were for the Audio tour, which is self guided listening through the Cell Block with a tape recorder. This was nice as we could take our time and look at different things we wanted to in the cell block, by shutting off the tape. If you are poor in health, the tram wasn't working the day we were there and it's an equaivlent walk up to 13 floors. It was also alittle nippy, so be sure to bring a jacket and wear pants. The stories and conditions presented to us were amazing. How they entertained themselves, especially if they were put into solitary. It was a Dark probably 8 by 8 room, solid concrete with only an air vent. Yes, Alcatraz is Haunted, the inmates called it "Hellcatraz". You can read more about it at one of my favorite websites, The Shadowlands~Haunted Alcatraz If you have any questions about my visit, please Write Me! |
