Bodie, Now a Ghost Town and State Park is Located in Mid-Eastern California on Highway 395 By the Bridgeport Turnoff.
We took a turnoff Mapquest showed us and took a tour of a 14 mile 4 wheel drive dirt road IN OUR CAR! Be careful.

The town itself is very open. Wear your walking shoes. Most of the town is Window Shopping Only so you may only look inside, not go in.
Only about five percent of the buildings it contained during its 1880 heyday still remain. Today it stands just as time, fire and the elements have left it, a Gold-Mining Ghost Town.
Pictured Right: The Old Methodist Church is the only church still standing in Bodie. E. J. Clinton of San Francisco restored the church and held the last service here in 1832. Since then, the interior has been badly vandalized and the Ten Commandments painted on oilcloth which once hung behind the pulpit. (Thou shalt not steal has been stolen)
Next Pictured is the Bodie Morgue and Cemetery. The Morgue itself had no history given with the self explanitory picture of many children's coffins.
The cemetery was 5 combined. It contained Ward's Cemetery, Masonic Cemetery, Miners' Union Cemetery, the Chinese Cemetery and "Boot Hill".
Only those accepted as respectable were buried inside the fences. Others were buried in "Boot Hill" outside the fences and in most cases without markers.
