Garnet Montana is located in the Central Western part of the state, near Idaho. From Missoula -Take I-90 West to the Bonner/Milltown Exit (Hwy. 200). Stay on Highway 200 for about 25 miles to the Garnet Ghost Town exit on your right, South. (There is a sign for the Town right before the turn-off) It is not a paved road and it is approx. another 12 miles to the town itself. This road is closed between October 1 to May 1 pending snow melt.
Several buildings are privately owned and private land is common in the Garnet area. Current mining and logging activities exist on both with open mine shafts, trenches and other safety hazards so always take caution!
PLEASE NOTE:
The road described above is under construction and a detour must be taken. You need to turn right on "Sunset Hill Road" and follow the marked signs to Garnet for now!Overview Of Garnet, Today

Overview Of Garnet, Today
©OldghostshomeGarnet …Which was originally named Mitchell for the man who erected a stamp mill to crush local ore. emerged in 1895 named after a semi-precious ruby colored stone found in that area. The surrounding mountains were rich in gold-bearing quartz.
The town grew after the Nancy Hanks Mine hit a vein of ore. After 1900, this mine was about the only one left that was yielding any ore so by 1905 many of the town people moved on and in 1912, a fire in the town’s business district leaving a death blow over the entire town. So as the town grew smaller, eventually the post office closed in 1942 –even the Nancy Hank Mine closed entirely in 1954.. Only a few of the Original residents remained including Frank Davey.F.A. ”Frank” Davey operated the Garnet General Store for 45 years and also owned the Stage and Freight Lines. It was said that we was not a pleasant man and was especially not popular with any of the town’s children who sometimes hung him in effigy from the hotel’s flagpole. He moved into the hotel kitchen when it closed in the 1930’s and also maintained some rooms while running the general store up to his death in 1947. He died walking to one of his mine claims and it was said that he had to be buried by the Elk’s organization because of assets could not cover the cost. Later that year in November, his belongings and store items were auctioned off which officially marked the time the town was now to be considered a ”Ghost”. Soon after, souvenir hunters stripped the town not only of loose items but of doors, woodwork, wallpaper and even the hotel stairway.

©OldghostshomeWe recently went back to Garnet -where I was able to get the above photo of Frank Davey. Do you think it looks like the ”Ghost” appearing in these pictures... (Original left, Enlarged above). It was taken in the Back Room Cellar of the Store itself. It was dark, damp and musty and only the light through the cracks of the outside cellar window entrance shown through. The feeling inside of the cellar was one quite eerie. You could only make out some of the cellars features with the naked eye but upon recovering the photos taken on our digital, we discovered a man standing within the light from the outside cellar door. It is probable it is Frank Davey’s Ghost. Note the distinct features of the face.

Another trip was made with Family to Garnet on July 18, 2004. My Niece captured these photos in the Jail which is located above the town on the hill. I can't even count the Orbs in the picture to the left! It also appears that in the Photo to the right, a "Ghost" might be lunging at my nephew! There is also a "Mist" in the window. (No Glass in any windows)
I tried to get EVP readings on this visit but with no luck!
The Jail was erected in 1897 but never received much use. Supposiedly the only person to be seen in the jail was Frank Kearn, a miner who killed someone's dog when he was drunk. In the 1960's -it was used to collect weather data, so my point is that ghost aren't picky about where they roam! * * * * * *
I will return to the town and get more photo opportunities again. I would also like to see if I can get any EVP readings.
I will post an update on the front page when more is added to this page and others.
I hope you will continue to visit my pages and
